Strome Castle Ruins are located near Loch Carron in Strathcarron, Scotland. The castle has a rich history dating back to the 15th century when it was originally built by the Macdonalds of Lochalsh. It served as a strategic stronghold due to its commanding position overlooking the loch and surrounding area. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands several times, often caught in the power struggles between various Scottish clans. In the late 16th century, it was taken over by the Mackenzies, a powerful Highland clan. However, in 1602, the castle was besieged and subsequently destroyed by the Macdonalds, who used gunpowder to blow it up, leaving it in ruins. Today, the remains of Strome Castle are a popular historical site, attracting visitors interested in Scotland's turbulent clan history. The ruins offer a glimpse into the past and provide stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including Loch Carron. While much of the structure is no longer standing, the site is accessible to the public and offers a peaceful spot for reflection and exploration.
