This and the next nine images are of Princess Charlotte Augusta, the only child of King George IV and Queen Caroline. Her death in childbirth caused King George III's other children to get into the business of producing an heir. Brother Edward won that contest.*** The engraving was done in 1822, the painting in 1817. It or one like it is at the National Portrait Gallery, London.*** Princess of Wales and heiress apparent to the throne of the United Kingdom until her untimely death in 1817. The race to produce an heir was won by Victoria, Duchess of Kent when her daughter Alexandrina Victoria became Queen in 1837.
