Album Info:
According to Norris, "Tudor Costume and Fashion," pp. 497-498 (Dover re-issue 1997) - "...it has rolls, set with jewels round the armholes of the sleeves, but at the wrist there are no tabs and and the dress appears to be fastened down the front of the bodice and skirt with frogs of gold set with jewels. The material of which thisdress is made is rich white silk embroidered in colors and gold, with groups of flowers and leaves on stalks appear diaper-wise with a conventional design in gold. A very fine carcanet of jewels with a pendnat surrounds the shoulders and a double row of pearls is draped round the neck in the same manner as shown in the 'Darnley' portrait; except that it hangs towards the left, and a pendnat jewel hangs from the waist on the right. The large circular ruff is of starched lawn edged with deep cutwork. A voluminous green mantle, bordered and covered with gold embroidery and lined with white silk, hangs from the shoulders, but without a cord fastening. The headdress is elaborate; it is in the form of a French hood and covered with pearls, surmounted by an upstanding coronet of goldsmith's work, jewels, and pearls. A fan hangs from the girdle on the left side, while gloves are carried in the left hand, a branch of myrtle in the right..." Marileecody (http://www.marileecody.com/eliz1-images .html) has this description: "In this portrait, the queen is the harbinger of peace. She holds an olive branch in her left hand and a sheathed sword lies at her feet. She is possibly wearing the same headdress, collar and girdle from the 'Ermine Portrait'. Also, both gowns are 'Polish style' with froggings."
