Album Info:

In the previous century, dresses had rooms for pockets in the voluminous skirts. These skirts have no room. What to do? Carry pocketed items externally in a net or mesh bag, a "reticule," that became today's purse or hand bag.* Closeup from a portrait by Gerard, date not found. This is mid 1800s judging by the high waist and because her son was born in 1802 and died in 1807. This is fairly austere for Bonaparte court dress without the billowing ruff and train. She is with Napoleon Charles. She had two other sons. The photo looks better when opened and the image expands.
