Charlotte Gere wrote in "Victorian Jewelry Design" p. 84 (1972 in UK, 1973 in USA): "In 1853, at the time of the Emperor's marriage to Eugenie de Montijo, the French acquired a dazzling leader of fashion. The Empress Eugeneie was in every way suited to this role, being tall and beautiful, which is confirmed even by photographs of her." According to Lisa's posting on the Alexander Palace Time Machine Discussion Forum of 7 June 2006: "Left from right: the marquise de Las Marismas, the comtesse de Lezay-Marnésia, the comtesse de Montebello, the baronne de Malaret, the baronne de Pierres and the marquise de Latour-Maubourg."
