Cutting is not just something that emo kids do to get attention, it is a serious mental problem that most people have to get a good amount of therapy to stop. So anyone who thinks that these people can just stop if they try really hard or trust in Jesus....or any religion for that matter....need to read something on the disorder of cutting and SI before trying to say how wrong or unchristian it is. It falls under the same area in a psychology books and major depression and emotional disturbances. I feel bad for those who are truly cutters and not just acting the part because they are embarrassed and ashamed of what they feel they have to do to feel anything. Read something on the subject before you feel the need to pass judgment or tell people what they need to do. It is the same thing as a recovering alcoholic missing alcohol or a drug addict missing the drugs.

I have a few things to say about self injury. I am 19 years old and have been dealing with this for 5 years. Just because you hurt yourself DOES NOT mean you want to die. Also, "finding religion" has absolutly nothing to do with recoverying from SI. The only thing that can make you stop cutting or burning or whatever, is yourself. Ive tried to stop dozens of times for other people sake and it never works. You need to want it for yourself. Until youve experienced what its like to feel like you NEED to cut yourself, dont talk ##### about the people who do.

i used to do it when i was younger. i'm proud of myself that i haven't since my mom passed away this past winter. i thought i'd turn to it immediately, sometimes i think it would help me release the pain though..

I'm sure loads of people miss it, I haven't even done it. I would never do it either, though I've given up almost all hope. I can't tell you that it's wrong to miss it because I would never know that. I can't tell you Jesus is the answer either, though I believe in him. I am not one to push my beliefs upon others, because I hate when people do that to me. And I can't say someone out there loves you, because for all I know that may not be true. But the fact that you can miss it, shows that you also have the strength to stop it, because to miss something it has to be gone. :] I'm not telling people to go back, or to have faith because that's their choice to make.

i signed up just to comment this too. i miss cutting too. but i got a tattoo of OM MANI PADME HUM across my wrist on the arm i used to cut..(worst pain ive ever felt in my life) its a buddhist prayer that means a lot of different things... Meditation, Patience, Discipline, Wisdom, Generosity, Diligence..... but overall it means COMPASSION. so everytime i look at it if i feel like cutting i don't.. i havent cut since.... its been three months... no one knows why i got that tattoo... it means a lot to me. if anyone ever feels like talking aim is megantr0n

When my best friend told me she once tried to cut herself but chickened out, it killed me. Not because she thought about it but the reason that she didn't do it as because she was too scared, not that she knew that I loved her too much and that if she killed herself she would have been killing me too.
