Visted Xian in late 2005. The warriors are actually lined by rank with the lowest ranked first. There are geologists studying their composition in order to preserve. Great closeup shot but I agree, the terra cotta is something to see.

Like it shot in black and white-color sometimes is very distracting-you notice the color first instead of the details, these statues are 5' 11", it must of takes years to make all of these...plus the horses, weapons, etc..

foxyfloridalady 2007.03.30 at 12:07:49 PDT
They just had a show on the history channel about them. They were all in military formation, in full armor, all had weapons-There were 8000 of them, and they were 2200 years old!!! The details and workmanship...incredible- fantastic shot. I believe there was quite a race of people centuries ago.

Why did you use black and white for this picture? It is so impressive in terra cotta.

Nic shot in b/w, but could be done easily!

I have seen these magnificent "warriors" personally and they are a sight to behold. I was wondering why the photo is not in COLOR? These are not black and white "warriors." It would look so much better in COLOR.

My husband and I visited Xian and saw these soldiers. They are incredible, but your shot is, too. Originally the soldiers were painted true to life colors, but fade as they hit the light. They are not uncovering more until they figure out a way to preserve the original colors. Thanks for your lovely work.
