You obtain the best image quality by using the lowest ISO possible on your digital camera. dedicated server . If you want to ensure your digital camera always uses the lowest ISO setting, switch the ISO setting from the default "Auto ISO" (this setting is usually found in the Menu) to the lowest possible on the camera, say ISO 50.

Don, thanks for sharing this album, and sharing your knowledge. Your illustrations make ISO much more understandable, maybe I'll branch out from the "Couch Potato" mode, and give it a shot! Thanks!

Thank you for the photography lesson. I am still getting used to my fabulous Nikon D200 and need to challenge myself a bit more to become comfortable with these settings. ~Marjie

What a wonderful album and "training seminar"! So glad I happened upon it and you happened to do it! My husband "upgraded" me to a Canon S5IS from a Canon Powershot 610 and I must confess to a little frustration with the new camera. I kind of liked taking awesome pictures without having to think about it = auto mode! I'm actually a little disappointed with the noise problem in low light - so it was perfect to find your ISO album as I haven't mastered that yet. I did use manual mode and fiddled with the ISO and aperture - got some good pictures but they were all by accident as I really didn't know what I was doing!! You are from the Pacific Northwest, right? Do you do any live seminars or classes? Thanks again for your tips! Teri WA State Richland

Dear Don, Thank you for sharing these visual tips on ISO setting. It's pretty daunting sometimes when I have to tinker with ISO, exposure and other controls of my camera - just to be able to get the desired effect on my photos. (I must confess though that when I get exasperated, I hastily switch to auto mode.) But a pro like you simplifies the understanding of such a technicality - by sheer photo samples and attached snippets of info. Much appreciate you taking both the time and effort putting up this album. Your photos truly inspire us to get us out of our point-and-shoot default tendencies (I call it really the "couch potato" mode), and harness the "manual" and "program" modes of our cameras. Take care, and God bless! ~~~Mary Ann
