    • Hello Chris, your efforts in this album have caused me to think again about the difference between color and BW. Ansel Adams (in the US) has been touted forever as "great" (I knew his name even before I took up photography after retiring), and I was surprised when I viewed his prints that all his work was BW. In trying to understand why his work is so acclaimed, I eventually saw that BW "contrast" has a greater range than is possible in color, so I tried a few but the results were disappointing. In this regard, your "Fern #17" is excellent. I also want to thank you for your kind review of 2 of my albums: "Fenton Moon" and "Jemez Mtn Trail". Ed/Albuquerque

    • Hi again Chris and this is really to thank you for your entry in my Sepia guest book. That is really the next step up from black and white - indeed you have to convert to BW before you can start applying the sepia toning to suit. It's fun to do, though, especially if you've got a few suitable photos in your files. If you want to try it out let me know and I'll tell you the secrets! Hugs, Peter

    • CHRISSY! How great to hear from you again and I was wondering why we hadn't seen anything of you lately and had put it down to that work promotion you had. But now you have a holiday to look forward to and we have the resultant photos to look forward to! We are going away ourselves in about 10/12 days time - going outback for a change and doing a couple of farm stays - should be fun, sleeping with the cows and horses!! Thanks for writing in my guest book and now I shall have to contain myself in patience while waiting for your next album to hit these pages! Thanks again, love and hugs, Peter

    • Hi Chris, Thanks for your notes in my latest album - another chapter?, best you'll have to wait for another year...this is the 3rd family we've had, but the first I've photographed. All grown up now, can't tell them apart anymore, all the same size, all eating from the same peanut butter tree and maintaining. Again, thanks for catching my album. Ron/Southern Oregon Coast

    • Hi Chris and I'm glad you liked the Swan River album. Many thanks for your entry in my guest book. Now I see you have been busy and added a few more and I really love that grasshopper - you have got everything just right in that photo. Excellent work. Now I hope you have dried out after that soaking you had a day or two ago. We couldn't believe how much rain was recorded over your way in just 24 hours. 500mm+ they say. That is what we have had in total since January 1 this year!! Take care now. Hugs, Peter

    • Hi Chris, thanks you for your kind comments on my albums. This is a very good looking album. I particularly like your cover shot (lighthouse) and the rose photographed from the front. This is also a great idea of black and white and it's somewhat ironic to use the latest photographic technology (digital imaging and computer processing) to simulate some of the earliest photographic technology – I like it! I've started several times to do an album of flowers in black and white, but I get so seduced by the color. Thanks again and greetings from Florida.

    • Hi Chris. It's me, Al, shortshooter, I've started another home page. I like the lighthouse and the view from Byron Bay best but they are all good. I'm still not sure about the flowers but I noticed that Brenda does like them a lot. It's all a matter of opinion, mainly yours in this case. Next time you visit how about picking a favourite so I can put it in the "Favourites album". What does Peter reckon about your black and white flowers? He's a good judge. Thanks for sharing mate. Hugs and best wishes to you. Al..

    • Hi Chris. This was a great idea. The black and white is very effective I think. I'm not sure if it's good on the roses??. You should let me know when you put out something new. You are always visiting my albums and I owe you about a thousand visits by now. Does this mean that you are back in business? I hope so mate. Thanks for sharing. Hugs and best wishes Al...

    • Hi Chris. ... Wow this is a lovely collection! .. The rose#4 and the orchid#5 are beautiful, you can almost feel their texture and I love your butterfly with the starburst add, it looks great. ... Thanks for stopping by my bird album and for your kind words. To answer your question "Which Cannon camera did you get?" I just got the Canon Rebel 305D, it wonderful but I've got a long way to go, I've never had an SLR before so its a hugh learning curve :P ... Once again a wonderful collection, I look forward to seeing more as you add them. All the best, Brenda ;-D

    • Hi Chris...I love them!! B&W is such a beautiful medium and I love to paint in it also. I find there is something just soo dramtic about it...and the depth comes through in a really different way. I loved the Rose...and the texture of the petals and who wouldn't love the beautiful Lighthouse and the light coming from behind the orchid looks fabulous!! Another great album my friend and you have truly succeeded with your experiments and they look as Galit said...WOW!! Many thanks ever for all your kind words in my albums since you joined Webshots..as we do all appreciate it and looking forward to more of your great albums...Take care Chris...and have a really great day and tks for sharing.....Kind regards....Em

    • hello Chris and many thanks for your entry in my Local Beaches album. To answer your question, YES it has gone VERY cold and WET, WET, WET these last few days, but heaven knows, we still need every drop of rain we can get. Now, I really love the way you have given us a reminder of what it was like when B&W ruled (like when I started in photography) and these are great pictures you have chosen to show us. I've been toying with doing an album along these lines but haven't quite plucked up the courage yet!! A good one to view is one of the albums on chrisrod100 site. You must tell me some day how you did these - whether they were on the camera's BW setting or whether you did it in the software afterwards. Either way, a great job. Cheers now, Peter

    • Hi Chris, wow, WOW, wow, WOW! This album IS WOW! You found exactly what looks better in those old 'shock colors' black and white. You've found so very well the balance of the contrast! By the way: the pictures show wonderful captures! The grasshopper, the butterfly and that cute lizard, the rose, the base of the tree, the views . . they are all beautiful! Thanks for reminding me how beautiful black and white can be! :-) An other thank you for pampering me with your lovely messages. I was much more occupied this last month. :-) Now I am back to work and even getting my albums posted. But I am so very much behind in answering my mails . . :-( Yes we are all well - tired :-), but well! :-) Have a wonderful day! Galit from Israel

    • Hi Chris, Many thanks for your welcome comments in my GB entries. This black and white album does take on its special form, but makes one very much appreciate color all the more. The rose in the 4th picture, all the different striations I didn't notice before-what's it like in color? Thanks again and best regards from the Oregon Coast. Ron
